A woman’s top tip for cooking veg this Christmas has left people very confused.
While most of us will opt to boil, steam or roast our veggies, one TikTok star has suggested we use the dishwasher.
Christmas will look very different for many of us this year – thanks to strict restrictions making it impossible to have a ‘normal’ festive season.
This might prompt people to jazz up their usual choices – and one social media user had a very unusual suggestion for improving your festive meals.
On TikTok, Shannon Doherty explains her “cooking hack” and showed how it works.
In the video, she puts broccoli in a glass jar and adds water before running a standard cycle.
The account @homewithshannon, which has 194,000 followers, explains: “Did you know you can cook your veggies in the dishwasher?
“This is the best holiday dinner hack. Put your veggies in mason jars, add water and run them in a normal dishwasher cycle.
“Instant veggies, best cooking hack.”
The video has been seen more than 240,000 times and has racked up 10,900 likes.
People were left confused by the unusual method, with many questioning how the lengthy dishwasher cycles saved time.
One viewer commented: “This doesn’t even save time? A dishwasher cycle is much longer than just steaming broccoli?
“Are you ok?”
Another commented: “That’s a waste of water and energy,” while one viewer dubbed it “utterly bizarre.”
A third joked: “Just a reminder – just because you can does not mean you should.”
A fourth added: “Remind me to never go eat at your house.”
But others were tempted by the video, with one person commenting: “So strange but awesome.”
Another added: “Mind blown.”
Mimi Morley, HelloFresh recipe development manager, said she wouldn’t suggest the unusual method.
She said: “We wouldn’t recommend this method if people want to enjoy a tasty meal.
“It’s not only less convenient but it’s also not the most flavoursome way of cooking vegetables.
“For those looking to cook vegetables over the festive season in a quick and efficient way, we would recommend sticking to a more traditional method by steaming the likes of carrots or other vegetables on the hob or roasting for some extra delicious crispiness.
“Try adding seasoning and a dash of honey for a festive twist when cooking the likes of carrots and parsnips.”
Meanwhile, one woman was trolled after revealing how she plates up her Chinese takeaway.
People were left disgusted after the mum dumped the food on a tray – with some people complaining that it ruined the dishes.
One person moaned: “Never seen a Chinese meal treated with such disrespect.”
